Be Prepared for Pool Season

For PDRMA members, it’s important to encourage “Everybody into the Aquatics Risk Management Training Day” before your agency’s refrain becomes “Everybody into the pool!” It’s the perfect opportunity to review important risk management best practices — and to pick up tips and tricks from peers about how to make the 2017 aquatics season a safe one for both staff and patrons.

Fox Valley Park District is hosting this event at its Prisco Community Center in Aurora, Ill., on April 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Click here to register, if you haven’t already done so.

“This year’s training is more interactive,” comments Bill Hooker, PDRMA Training Program Supervisor. “We’re using a case-study approach and group exercises to learn how best to manage risks, and we’ll focus on pre-event planning for a potential crisis.” This year’s topics include:

  • Proactive risk management practices for preventing and minimizing incidents.
  • Pre-event planning for a crisis.
  • PDRMA's role in an aquatic crisis.
  • Your agency's role/responsibilities in managing an aquatic crisis.

“Be sure to order the aquatic-season supplies you’ll need from PDRMA now, so you’re ready for the summer season,” adds Hooker, noting that 3 Points of Contact signs and decals for lifeguard chairs, Core 6 materials and drowning prevention pamphlets for patrons are among the most-used resources.

If you didn’t attend the Essential Elements of Aquatic Risk Management Webinar on March 2, click here to listen to a review of the core elements of PDRMA aquatic risk management including the lifeguard audit program, vision program, resources and key elements of the aquatic guidelines.
