What could you do to improve your life? Or make a dream come true? If you want to “level up” some part of your life, thinking differently is your first step.
Each of us has the power to make important changes in our lives that lead us to feel better and want to do even more. One small positive change creates that feeling of success and gradually builds greater confidence in the future. Think of it like a snowball rolling downhill, gathering momentum as it goes.
Steps to Positive Change
First, think about an area of your life in which you want to “level up.” Is it your career, your health, your relationships? Or maybe you want to improve your financial situation.
Next, find one thing to do first to improve that area of your life. For example, maybe you choose to focus on your career and want to consider one of these actions:
- Take a class about something that interests you.
- Work on a certification in your field.
- Explore new areas of interest that could lead to changing professions.
“Taking that first step might feel scary, but that’s okay!” says PDRMA’s Wellness Consultant, Hayley Flott. “Everyone feels that way when they do something outside their comfort zone. Completing a personal challenge will empower you to take another step forward!”
As you start taking action, find a moment each week to reflect on your progress. This could be as simple as writing a weekly list of the actions you have taken toward your goal or writing a journal entry to record your feelings and experiences. Tracking your progress can help you see that you really are doing what you planned to do — and accomplishing it!

- Videos — You can find videos on a wide range of topics under Media in the navigation bar on the PATH home page. Topics include emotional balance, financial wellness, meditation, personal growth, healthy eating and other ways to make your life better.
- Journeys — These are daily, self-guided courses packed with educational tips and actions you can take to improve your physical and mental health. You can find them on the navigation bar under Health and choose from more than 100 different Journeys. We add more each month, so keep checking!
- Coaching — Sign up for PATH Coaching (under Health) for some one-on-one support. A coach can motivate you, give you tips and help you reach your goals.
